Sunrise

Who set Maumee on fire?

This was a hard one to do because the sunrise was so bright that it made it tricky to get the light balanced properly.  Toning down the sun (can that even be done?) made the buildings too dark, so this is a happy medium.  The sun still looks a little blown out.

This is not technically a new photo, I took it a few months ago. Sometimes I take a picture and don’t like it but when I give it some time and go back to it, then I suddenly think it is ok.

Fun and exciting times ahead for this weekend – how about for you?

bowling green windmills

I didn’t get any good pictures tonight, so I’m going to the vault to post something I took back in early April. Northwest Ohio finally got some windmills a few years ago and they are in the perfect location – Bowling Green, Ohio – which is like a wind tunnel compared to the surrounding areas. There are four windmills total, two facing one way, two facing the opposite way. They are situated within the city landfill. They have an observation area, but I didn’t realize that when I drove up into this farm field to jump out and take this. They never look as impressive on film as they do “in real life” so I was glad there was a barn in the shot for perspective. Not the most spectacular picture in the world, but I do like the colors of the barn, sky and grass and the memory of what a nice day it was that day!

summer comes to the square

Hot Dog Stand, originally uploaded by Christine Bailey.

I’ve been waiting to get a picture of the hot dog cart guy – now I know that good weather is here to stay for a while! I walk by there a few times a day and it smells so good. It would have been better to get closer for the picture but then I’m always afraid someone will say “What the hell are you doing taking pictures??” And this is why I’m an amateur.

moonrise

Well its been so busy at home and work that I haven’t had a chance to do much with the camera in the last few days, so I’m going to the vault for some recent pictures that I haven’t posted yet.

This was taken about a month ago…I really like the colors here…I do find it interesting that the moon never looks as big when you look at it through the camera.

i pledge allegiance to pink

Laundry day at our house. I took 30 some pictures of this from all different angles before I decided that I liked this one best…in the rest I was getting in too close or trying to keep the garage or neighbor’s place out of the picture, but then I realized that it was a much better version of the picture if the clothesline had an “anchor”.

The sky wasn’t cooperating today.  It looks all overexposed and blown out, but since it is a cloudy sky day who cares?  Did you see all that pink?

more clothes pins

This picture would have been better if I hadn’t nipped off the end of the blue pin closest to the front…and next time I’ll have to try it with actual linens on the line!

Good thing the weekend is here…I need an inspiration recharge – STAT! This photo opportunity occurred during the only five minutes of sun that I think we’ve had all week. Hoping the weekend is nicer weather so I can venture out and find some other cool things to take pictures of…I know there are still some varieties of flower out there that I haven’t taken an extreme close up of yet!

Thanks to everyone who has been stopping by to visit and share their comments!

Ahh…good weather days return to the area! Today was the first day that the patio on the 8th floor of our building was unlocked, so I was looking for interesting views from all angles…

Last year, Dave and Meredith rented a kayak from here and took a ride downstream. This place is called River Lures and they will rent them for about $20 per person. The stacks of boats are so colorful!

Some guys right next to the dam outside of Grand Rapids, OH catching a fish. I was too slow to get a picture when they held it up, but is was huge – looked at least 14 inches. They showed it off, then released it.

Right now the Walleye Run is on, which always brings thousands of fishermen and women from all over to our section of the Maumee River.  It was a bit quieter in Grand Rapids than in Maumee, but there were still plenty of people out with their poles.

So warm on our walk between downtown Grand Rapids, OH and the dam near Thurston State Park…so we stopped to get ice cream for everyone, including the puppies. this was her first ice cream and she chowed it!

survived the winter

Found this outside in the backyard this morning – the remains of a leaf. The photo is a little blurry, but I can live with that for now.

bat house

Have been bad about not posting photos for the last few days…we have had this bat house on the back of our garage for twelve years now and I don’t think we’ve ever had an occupant.

Time to brainstorm photo ideas for the weekend. Anyone out there have some good ideas to share? Let me know!
