colors of calm
A counterpoint to yesterday’s brights – the Picture Color prompt for today was to capture the colors of calm.
I collected these shells on Sanibel with my mom and daughter back in April, and then got the bamboo bowl at a local store. I still can’t get over how colorful these shells are, though they are probably some of the more delicate colors in our home.
Don’t want to give the impression that we live in a funhouse, but most of the decor in our home is on the lively and brightly-colored side. I know that comes as a big shock to you, right??
these are my shades
Had to get a picture representing my favorite shades when it comes to makeup, etc. for the Picture Color class. Tropical shades, as always – they give me energy and make me happy. The only thing missing is the bright fuchsia that is my all time favorite color.
Got the nightgown on clearance and the eye shadows on ebay (new, sealed in original package!) so these are my economical treasures!
overgrown pedestrian bridge
One thing that I’ve noticed about the Picture Color assignments is that they lend themselves very well to close-up compositions and minutiae. Today I thought it was high time that I step back and take a longer view. The prompt for today was to find ‘everyday color.’ I drive by this on my way to work – a pedestrian bridge over the Amtrak line coming out of downtown. The green leaves and blue rails make a lively color combination.
the color of intellect
Not a favorite color combination, but it was part of the Picture Color prompt for today – pink and red.
By the way, some have the opinion that liking pink, feminine things indicates a loss of IQ points. To the contrary, I think that surrounding myself with ladylike stuff causes me to gain them. Pink is vital and energetic, so it is a fitting metaphor for the curious mind.
Maybe Picture Color should have a prompt about visualizing the color of an individual’s intellect and then drawing it through the lens. Crazy, I know!
watercolors
Ten days into the Picture Color class and still loving it (except for the day with the janky ‘take a photo of something white’ prompt).
Today’s prompt – the colors of what we use to create. Found my daughter’s old paints and used those so my photo would be rainbow fantastic!
the cherry and the cat
…right before the cat tried to run off with the cherry.
The prompt o’ the day suggested capturing a ‘punctuation mark’ of color. They meant it figuratively – I took it literally. I knew it was going to be something with a cherry since they look like exclamation points to me. The grocery comped me the cherry since I wanted to buy only one and it was too light to register on the produce scale.
The cat kept grabbing the cherry by the stem and tossing it off the table. Had to hurry to get the picture before the light was completely gone and the cat destroyed the cherry, so the photo is a bit shaky.
snacktime
My mom brought smores fixin’s over for my daughter today. How convenient – the Picture Color prompt for today suggested taking a photo of goodies in the kitchen.
white
Oh, man did Picture Color change it up today – the photo had to be predominately white. I don’t do white! Not very well, anyhow. I took a thousand million versions and they all looked wrong – too light, too dark, shadows too purple, whites too gray, etc. Grrr…..
the color of comfort
Today’s prompt – capture the colors of comfort. Well, at the end of a long/bad day my bed, a big stack of books and some rum are fairly comforting.
I’m a complete introvert – but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a lot going on behind my glasses. I have repeatedly been told (by idiots) that I read too much and that I think too much. Is there even such a thing? I let that give me a complex between the ages of 14 and 40, but I’m embracing it now. Despite the introversion and crippling shyness, I do love to talk and share things – all anyone ever has to do is ask.
