cicada conga line

Cicada Conga Line

I almost didn’t take a picture tonight, and I’m not crazy about the one I DID take.

Today’s task was to take a beautiful picture of something considered ugly. Well, what is beautiful? Or ugly? I spent the better part of the day turning that over in my mind. Just before dark I plopped down on the couch, defeated, and stared out the window into our yard….where there are twenty empty cicada shells marching in a line up the side of our tree. I think everyone would agree that cicada shells are ugly!

The race was then on to pick them off the tree and take them to the lightest spot of the yard to get some pictures before dark.  Voila!

Tonight’s challenge was to capture ugly…and I think I got some, no?  Now I need to go wash my hands about a thousand times.  Anyone want me to make them a sandwich???

caffeinated

Caffeinated

Today’s @dailyshoot challenge is to do a monochromatic picture. Expected me to choose pink, didn’t you? Well, I’m as wily as a lubed weasel and I went and changed it up on all of you by going with brown!

Not sure which I love more, coffee or nail polish. Probably polish, since I have nearly one hundred bottles. Coffee’s a close second. So, this is a picture of L’Oreal’s Caffeinated Pro Nail Polish lying on what was left of our fresh-ground coffee.  Wonder twin powers activate!

I almost didn’t take a photo tonight because I have one of those motherscratching summer colds and I’m headed for an early bedtime. Still, I’ve got some momentum going, so I went forward with the first concept that came to mind.

icy

Ice hearts on the driveway Today’s @dailyshoot assignment:  photograph something cold.

Not a particularly compelling pic, but I thought the ice hearts might be cute.

Today might be a two-post night.  I took some other pictures of frozen stuff and couldn’t decide which one I liked best.

patterns

My weeds and my jewelry

Today’s suggestion from @dailyshoot was to incorporate a pattern into a photo. After taking countless pictures of my jewelry lying in scallop-leafed weeds, I took the above photo with the earrings in a nearby tree and it came out best of all.  There’s no pattern here, but  I do think the light and sparkle are crazy awesome!

first frost

First frost, originally uploaded by Christine Bailey.

Took this the morning after that first frost about a week ago. As you look from left to right on the leaves, the frost had begun to melt and run off the leaves. This is my blueberry plant…should have used a tripod, its blurry!

bumblebee

This is my bumblebee buddy who is diligently pollinating my raspberries. Judging by the number of berries the plant is producing in this, its first year – the bee is doing an awesome job!

guitar pick

Didn’t get out with the camera today AGAIN, so this one is from a while back, husband’s guitar and pick…probably should have cropped out the upper right corner where the neck ends and my bedspread begins…

breakfast of champions? nooo, breakfast of people who have to go swimsuit shopping…

Breakfast, originally uploaded by Christine Bailey.

Monette’s was selling berries so cheap that I could not resist them and so its yogurt-berries-granola time! I used my tripod for once to ensure the focus was as sharp as my camera can do.

Got our pool passes, so now must… buy… swimsuit.

color theory

Tulips, originally uploaded by Christine Bailey.

I took this a while ago, but recently submitted it to JPG magazine, where it has gotten some activity. If ya love the pink like I do (and even if you don’t!) I hope you will consider voting for me here.

I took this on a freezing cold day in early February out in the snow because the light was good coming through the clouds…if you look very closely you can see a little snowflake clinging to the center tulip’s right petal (on the upper right part of the petal.)

princess party shoes

…Oh is there anything pink that I won’t buy? No, there isn’t. I splurged on these at Christmas and have been waiting for a chance to wear them out with the matching pink satin clutch I got at the same time. Finally got the chance on Saturday at the club.

Trying to do a macro that is not so close that you can’t tell it is a shoe…of all that I took, I think these do okay. Still working on lighting issues and am reading Light– Science & Magic : an Introduction to Photographic Lighting by Fil Hunter, Steven Biver and Paul Fuqua. Have I learned anything from it yet? You be the judge!

work days

Desk, originally uploaded by Christine Bailey.

I took this a while ago but this is pretty much what I see at my desk every day….the coffee cup is every bit as big as it looks!

Inspiration for photo ideas is temporarily flagging again but I think it is because I am so TIRED today…that’s why I use a vat to hold my coffee…

Getting out of town this weekend to see a friend and I maybe will venture off the beaten path more this time on my way there to get some interesting pictures…thanks to those who are sticking with me and this experiment of mine even when the pictures suck!

Colorful ornament that belongs to my daughter.

I don’t know why, but this sphere reminds me of the Death Star….the most fabulous Death Star EVER.

more stamps from our correspondence…

love stamps

Stamps, originally uploaded by Clbailey1.

When my husband and I corresponded for the two years before he moved to the US and we got married, I mailed him a letter every day. (This was going on 20 years ago, before internet and when phone calls to the UK were a dollar a minute!)

The people at the post office got to know me and the story about how we met, so they started putting love stamps on all my mail to him. I kept lots of the stamps, either extras, or soaked off the envelopes once he moved here, bringing all the letters and envelopes back with him. We got love stamps put on our wedding invitations and thank you notes as well.

Someday I want to somehow get them mounted and framed in a collage. I got them out late last night and played at arranging them, taking some photos as I went…

survived the winter

Found this outside in the backyard this morning – the remains of a leaf. The photo is a little blurry, but I can live with that for now.

I did not expect to find something pretty on such a crappy gray rainy day, but once I really started looking…

Pink and green, the best color combination ever…can’t get enough pink – especially fuchsia!

necklace

Necklace part II, originally uploaded by Clbailey1.

Made a spectrum necklace, ranging from the darkest red to the lightest purples and pinks so if my day is not sufficiently colorful, I can whip this baby out!
